I'm a little late on the posts. Its been a rough week, having to move out of my apartment and into a small room in JJ's lovely but freezing cold house last weekend. Its dark at 4:30 every day, and even though Travis and I say we're going to work on the house every night after work, we don't. And I know we wont next week, either. But thanks to Travis we did scavenge some amazing things for the house a couple nights this week, and it saved me enough money that I don't feel bad about not getting anything else done.
Monday night Travis's housemate Danny called him to say there were some really good-looking old doors sitting out on the sidewalk on 20th and Spruce. We took Travis's van downtown and found about 10 doors leaning up against an apartment building. Two were the dimensions we needed and still had original hardware. The same night, across the street from where Travis lives at 19th and Waverly, someone had put out the leftovers from a bathroom remodeling-- which included a Kohler pedestal sink in perfect condition. There were also a couple bundles of bead board, which we probably won't use but took just in case.
Two nights later, Travis came home with the 4.5' claw foot tub I'd been looking for, in the back of the car. He got it for free from a friend who bought a house and didn't want the original tubs that came with it.
Here's all the sweet free shit that I now have sitting in my living room:
The tub needs to be sanded and repainted on the outside, and so do the claw feet (which are separate right now). There are a few spots on the inside porcelain that could maybe be fixed up, but I'm not sure how to do that. Yet.
